Background

The Local Flea is a consignment shop with the largest selection of quality pre-owned luxury goods online and in-store. Their collection boasts a wide range of top designer brands at affordable prices. All items are sourced from Remoov, the other half of the business. Remoov specializes in picking up used items and then selling, donating, or recycling them. The Local Flea appeals to sellers and buyers alike, as the original owners of the items receive 50% of the sale price, and buyers are able to make offers on items if they are not satisfied with the sticker price. The Local Flea has operated out of the San Francisco Bay Area and Phoenix for several years. Due to their success, they have recently expanded into Miami as well!

Challenge

As a business with both online and in-person stores, The Local Flea wanted to level up its social media presence, especially given consumers’ growing reliance on ecommerce businesses and the increasing amount of time spent on social media over these past few years. However, the team found themselves strapped for time and unable to give their social media platforms the kind of hands-on attention required to move the needle. As such, their overall engagement remained fairly static each month.

Before taking on The Local Flea’s organic social media management, Stackmatix had already been working with Remoov and The Local Flea for several years managing all of their paid media channels. Due to Stackmatix’s continued success driving growth across paid channels, The Local Flea decided to partner with Stackmatix for their organic social media needs as well.

Solution

A major, overarching part of this initiative was to ensure that the social media accounts accurately and consistently reflected the look and feel of The Local Flea’s brand. Although The Local Flea touts a vast collection of beautiful, unique, high end products, initially their social media accounts featured very few of these items. Of the products that were featured, the social channels gave little direction on where to actually purchase them.

To guide users to the site, we first implemented a “Link in Bio” to direct customers to the website and to items that were featured on the feed. This was set up through a tool called Later, which has a sophisticated link in bio feature that allows linking to multiple web pages through a single link. Among other things, Later also enabled a high level of organization through advanced content calendar capabilities.

To make the aesthetic of the social media profiles more in line with The Local Flea’s premium look and feel, we created image assets that reflected the quality of the items and brands, taking into consideration The Local Flea’s color palette and overall design style. We also started posting images of interior design trends and other visuals that could be used as mood boards for anyone trying to decorate their own homes, thereby conveying the message that The Local Flea is more than a home goods store: it is also a resource for anyone looking for interior design inspiration.

Last but not least, we increased diversity within The Local Flea’s posted content by pulling information from The Local Flea’s blog, including furniture and decorating tips and facts on how reusing furniture is eco-friendly. We also started posting different types of content outside of just single images, such as Instagram reels and guides.

Results

By creating a consistent, pleasing visual style, and through increasing the various touch points and types of content that a user could engage with, we drastically improved engagement across The Local Flea’s social media platform. We increased CTR by 126%, profile visits by 100%, and follower growth rate by 43%. We also doubled the number of posts saved by users and increased the reach of The Local Flea’s stories by over 440%.
